HINCH ON R AND R

From today Hinch Says is on R and R for two weeks. That’s not Rest and Recreation. It is actually Reading and Writing. My publisher has set a deadline for my next book to be published in 2005. It will be called “Human Headlines – My 45 Years as a Frontline Journalist.”

But it will be less about Hinch and more about 40 or so Aussie journos who have made a mark here and abroad. People like veteran Desmond Zwar whom I interviewed at his Beechworth home recently. He wrote the book about Rudolf Hess – the last man standing in Spandau Jail. He also got the nod from Rupert Murdoch to write the biography of his father, Sir Keith.

Zwar’s own latest book is just out. It is called “The Queen, Rupert and Me”.

For too many people doing media studies in Australia their reference works are written by former editors of the London Sunday Times or Woodward and Bernstein. Not that there’s anything wrong with that as Seinfeld would say.

I plan to get the views and insights of veteran journos here and abroad. Harry Gordon, Steve Dunleavy, Bruce Wilson, Ita Buttrose. Big job. Should be fun.

Hinch Says returns Monday, September 20.
