CATCH THE BLAME
Is there no end to this man’s arrogance and impertinence and zealotry? I am talking about that self-styled leader of men and moral guardian Pastor Danny Nalliah. Head of the Catch the Fire Ministries. He’s the one who added to people’s grief at the height of the bushfire terror by claiming that the carnage had been caused by Victorians upsetting God and passing changes to the abortion laws late last year.
This compassionate man of the cloth, this man of love and sympathy and Christian spirit, actually said: ‘these bushfires have come as a result of the incendiary abortion laws which decimate life in the womb’.
He said that God had removed his protection from Australia – and especially Victoria –‘for approving the slaughter of innocent children in the womb.’
All this was in a media release which Catch the Fire proudly posted on its website and which I said last week was the most despicable, perverse, insensitive, cruel and callous media release I had ever seen.
I said that I read it and actually felt physically sick. I have seen putrid and evil stuff from nutters and zealots in the past and would normally consign it to the wastepaper basket. Would not give the writer the warped pleasure of knowing I had even received it.
But this was different because it came from an evangelical group with influence and support in Canberra from people like John Howard and Peter Costello. Last month they had the former Treasurer and would-be Prime Minister video an effusive endorsement for their conference. Costello has since denounced Nalliah’s comments.
I wouldn’t drag it out of the waste bin except Danny Nalliah is at it again.
He’s put out a new release under the headline Strong Words for the Love of a Nation. And guess what? It’s all the media’s fault.
The poisonous pastor now says he’s very sad that ‘many seemed offended and have taken what he had said out of context, simply believing the media reports, rather than reading the original statement which is on our website’.
‘Scuse me? I was quoting directly and accurately from your website Danny Boy. They’re all your own putrid words.
And, even now, he still can’t give up on his line that God deserted us because of the abortion issue. He concludes by saying: ‘My heart’s desire is that, as Bible-believing God-fearing Christians repent to the Lord and pray during these seven days, God’s protection would be restored to our state of Victoria and nation of Australia, and that there would be no further disasters.’
So repent all ye sinners, and do as Danny says, or it will happen again.
